Why I have opened the window!

Amerykah has turned a corner and we should all turn with it. I have thoughts ideas and suggestions but I also have patience and desire for us to be whole and one. I have been speaking a lot lately of the human condition and the generations of Black Americans. i will entertain any and all conversation as long as we can be respectful and grown up. Let the healing begin......

No more Mondays!

So I have made a editorial decision to discontinue “Tha Man Monday”. Now not to worry I am replacing it with something even better.

Welcome to “You are cordially invited…”

Every Tuesday I will answer that age old question asked at games and parties. “If you were having a dinner party who would you invite, living or dead?” I hope you enjoy.

Heck of a ..oh Fuck it!

So let’s say I have a job interview for a job I really really want. Who should I ask about what I will possibly need to know about the job and how best to secure it. Should I ask the person doing the job? Well I could but, he might be busy doing the job right now so he probably does not have time. Hey I know, I will ask the last person who had the job, oh wait, he left in disgrace cause when the chips were down he would not come out from under his desk. Well that does not matter, even though he was completely unqualified for the job to begin with and more than proved that as the shit literally came down around him, he will clearly be a good source of information.

While the above scenario seems a little silly, it seems the news networks of America think this is perfectly sound advice. So roughly 3 years ago this country experienced a horrible blow to its spirit. Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast resulting in over 80 million dollars in damage. The destruction itself was not the worst part of this disaster; by far the most disheartening thing was the response (or lack of) from the US government.

First there was nothing, then there was finger pointing, then there was talk about what to do. And all the while people were trapped in their houses dying or surrounded by the dead. And the man in charge of F.E.M.A. (Federal Emergency Management Agency) the man who was suppose to rescue our fellow Americans , the man appointed by George W. Bush (don’t get me started) Mr. Michael Dewayne Brown. This man has been making the news rounds as an “expert” as Hurricane Gustav makes its way to the Gulf Coast.

Now it is true that response time has been much better this time around, New Orleans was evacuated very early on. But come on, what the fuck is Michael Brown doing on my TV? This man did not just get fired in the middle of the Katrina disaster, this man was run out on a rail. This man was thrice denied on national television. I mean his dismissal was biblical in nature. His name was stricken from every obelisk. And now here he is, clearly one of the most hated men of 2005, on the news giving his expert opinion all the while repeating “It’s too early to say” and “you can’t take anything for granted”.

So today I want to add an extra Man for Tha Man Monday. Mr. Michael DeWayne Brown, the man who has shown us that no matter how much time goes by, if you kill enough brown people you will ultimately be rewarded in America

Please have a paperbag ready before you listen to this...you may need to throw up!

Tha Man Monday

Can I just say I miss the 70’s. Being born in 1972 most folks figure I don’t remember much, but I have always been an old soul. I remember my mother having parties. She and my God mother would get together with some other folks (names who can remember names, they weren’t my friends after all) and have what I called record parties. I think the only thing my mother loved more than me (maybe neck and neck) was her record collection.
Looking back it was nothing more or less spectacular than what pretty much everyone else had, but it was hers and she was proud of it. So proud of it she didn’t want me to touch it, which I never did (until I was sure she was long gone and not coming home anytime soon.) But I did take great care to make sure everything was put back just as I took it out. I loved sitting in front of that turn table and just getting lost amid the sea of record covers.
Then there was my father who I know loved his collection more than me, but to be fair it was and to my knowledge today remains a quite impressive collection. He was a little more trusting with his records than mommy, but I think it is because I showed the same care I had learned from putting her albums back undisturbed.
The music from the 70’s is a sound that you are hard pressed to find these days. Most of those cat’s are not making much music anymore and some that are trying to keep up with these “young bloods” (see how easy I slip back?)

Well today’s “Tha Man Monday” is dedicated to a man who is still managing to be contemporary and old school at the same time. Roy Ayers a funk/soul/jazz musician who made the vibraphone the hotness. Born in LA in September of 1940 (yes he is a Virgo). I asked an old head (someone older than me LOL) which he thought was Roy’s most popular song but he could not decide so I decided to list the three I thought were in the competition. In no particular order

“Running Away” from the album Lifeline,

“Coffy is the Color” from the soundtrack for 70’s cult classic “Coffy”,

and “Everybody loves the sunshine” from the album by the same name.
Well it does not matter to me which is most popular there all the hotness.
Here is one of my favorites..

Tha Man Monday (yes on Wednesday)

Hey all I have been laid up for the last week in a little (haha) bit of pain and the thought of typing anything whole my bog toe was doing a rendition of Janet Jackson’s “throb” was just not going to happen. So sorry for the lateness but here is this weeks

Tha Man Monday

Justin Rodgers Hall was born February 22, 1981 in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. He worked in the other Transporter movies and will take part in Transporter 3 as Horatio. His upcoming films and shows will include My Sister’s Keeper, Depth Charge, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Star Trek, The Soloist, State Islandi, Fighting, Dead Air, He’s Just Not That into You, Babylon A.D., Dark World, and Playboys. He was also recently in The Mutant Chronicles, Street Kings, Dreamgirls, and Final Approach.

Now I don’t get it … look at him, why is he only getting one or two lines in movies? Why is he the background guy? Oh well I won’t say why I think this is the case but I will say keep your eyes out for him cause it does not look like he is stopping anytime soon.

Tha Man Monday

In an effort to work on my problem with deadlines (yes I know I have a problem with deadlines I just said I did…) I am starting a little thing called “Tha Man Mondays”. This will usually be someone that I really really like or admire for one reason or another, and might be someone that does not get a lot of press in general. I like being able to hear “Oh yeah D you told me about him didn’t you?”

So my first Man for “Tha Man Mondays” is Kevin Grevioux. Kevin is a Chicago born (YAH!!!!!!)Actor and writer. He is a Howard University graduate with a degree in Microbiology.

Kevin left a future career as a mad scientist to pursue his love of writing and while you main recognize him as the Werewolf Raze from Underworld, what you might not know that Underworld is also his first professional screenplay.

He has also appeared in the movies Bowfinger, Men in Black 2, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, and Charlie’s Angels* to name a few. He was also a regular on the first couple of seasons of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Currently Kevin is writer for the fourth “New Warriors“title from Marvel comics. IMDB has also listed Underworld III Rise of the Lycans with a January 2009 opening date.

I figure Kevin is probably not Gay but he is a Actor/Writer and I figure he will just love having a fan base so yeah I am gonna say....he real easy on the eyes. (That is actually how I started noticing him). So show him some love before he becomes to big to receive mail from everybody.
