Why I have opened the window!

Amerykah has turned a corner and we should all turn with it. I have thoughts ideas and suggestions but I also have patience and desire for us to be whole and one. I have been speaking a lot lately of the human condition and the generations of Black Americans. i will entertain any and all conversation as long as we can be respectful and grown up. Let the healing begin......

Wearing your heart on your CD

I am often astounded by any artist’s ability not to turn pain into art but to turn pain into art and know that you will have to revisit that pain over and over whenever it is called upon you to do that particular piece. Such is the case with “Telephone” from Erykah Badu’s 2008 album “New Amerykah Part 1- Fourth World War”. This is a song she wrote after the funereal of her good friend J Dilla. Before I knew the origins of the song I knew it was a story of pain and loss and while the origins of this song may in fact be sad, you have to admit after hearing it, this is a sound not heard since the 70’s and is something sorely missed.

Take a few minutes, turn the Television, lights, etc, (not the computer) and just give this song a full listen.

Dressed to Thrill

Well the Olympics are over and while I will not go into how I felt about the coverage of NBC I will say I was happy to see a lot of people taking the Olympic spirit to hart.
So if you have been watched any part of the Olympic games in Beijing you at some point had to have seen the beautiful Chinese ceremony girls that carry the medals, signs, etc… Now I am far from a “fashionista” but Beijing outdid themselves.

Those girls who spent on average 10 hours a day on their high heeled feet were well worth the spirit they showed over the last two plus weeks. I look forward (with a little fear) to see what London does for the 2012 games. (did you see the mayor of London?)

Tha Man Monday (yes on Wednesday)

Hey all I have been laid up for the last week in a little (haha) bit of pain and the thought of typing anything whole my bog toe was doing a rendition of Janet Jackson’s “throb” was just not going to happen. So sorry for the lateness but here is this weeks

Tha Man Monday

Justin Rodgers Hall was born February 22, 1981 in Columbia, South Carolina, USA. He worked in the other Transporter movies and will take part in Transporter 3 as Horatio. His upcoming films and shows will include My Sister’s Keeper, Depth Charge, G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra, Star Trek, The Soloist, State Islandi, Fighting, Dead Air, He’s Just Not That into You, Babylon A.D., Dark World, and Playboys. He was also recently in The Mutant Chronicles, Street Kings, Dreamgirls, and Final Approach.

Now I don’t get it … look at him, why is he only getting one or two lines in movies? Why is he the background guy? Oh well I won’t say why I think this is the case but I will say keep your eyes out for him cause it does not look like he is stopping anytime soon.

I am an Old Black Man...

So the last couple of days I have been laid up with what my friend Carla calls one of the “Old black man’s Diseases”, I am suffering from “The Gout”.

Now let me state I don’t know why there is a “the” in front of Gout but black folks been referring to it like that for generations. When I called my Grandmother and told her I was suffering once before she kept using “the” in front of it.

“The Gout” is a form of arthritis or as my great grandmother use to call it, Arthur.

“Gout is characterized by excruciating, sudden, unexpected, burning pain, as well as swelling, redness, warmth, and stiffness in the affected joint. This occurs commonly in men in their toes but can appear in other parts of the body and affects women as well. Low-grade fever may also be present. The patient usually suffers from two sources of pain. The crystals inside the joint cause intense pain whenever the affected area is moved. The inflammation of the tissues around the joint also causes the skin to be swollen, tender and sore if it is even slightly touched. For example, a blanket or even the lightest sheet draping over the affected area could cause extreme pain.

Gout usually attacks the big toe (approximately 75 percent of first attacks); however, it also can affect other joints such as the ankle, heel, instep, knee, wrist, elbow, fingers, and spine. In some cases, the condition may appear in the joints of small toes that have become immobile due to impact injury earlier in life, causing poor blood circulation that leads to gout.”

Now having a size 15 foot I know it is hard to imagine what that foot might look like swollen, let me just say, it ain’t pretty. Luckily it’s not the whole foot just my big toe from the nail to the toe “knuckle”. All I know is walking is painful and I have not had a sexy thought for the last two days.

Pray for me America…….

You Go Girl!!!!!!!! Speak that word!!!!!!!!

So about a year ago the “Daddys” got me hooked on this show called “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” on MSNBC.

Not one to watch the news because it was so depressing Countdown was a cool breath of fresh air. Mostly political with just enough human interest thrown in, I have found myself looking forward to the six foot six host and his expensive clothing allowance. But this blog is not about the well dressed dapper intelligent Keith, it is about his some time stand in gal pal Rachel Maddows.

Rachel Maddows is host of the aptly named “Rachel Maddows show” on Air America radio and when Keith goes fishing she sits in on Countdown. I have watched Rachel as she has gone from a Keith stand in using his same inflections to tell a story to Rachel the woman with her own style. Well today her own style paid off as it was announced that she will host a as of yet unnamed show on MSNBC that will follow “Countdown”.

So to Rachel I say congratulations girlfriend!!!!! I look forward to your fist day 09/08/2008.

Tha Man Monday

In an effort to work on my problem with deadlines (yes I know I have a problem with deadlines I just said I did…) I am starting a little thing called “Tha Man Mondays”. This will usually be someone that I really really like or admire for one reason or another, and might be someone that does not get a lot of press in general. I like being able to hear “Oh yeah D you told me about him didn’t you?”

So my first Man for “Tha Man Mondays” is Kevin Grevioux. Kevin is a Chicago born (YAH!!!!!!)Actor and writer. He is a Howard University graduate with a degree in Microbiology.

Kevin left a future career as a mad scientist to pursue his love of writing and while you main recognize him as the Werewolf Raze from Underworld, what you might not know that Underworld is also his first professional screenplay.

He has also appeared in the movies Bowfinger, Men in Black 2, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes, and Charlie’s Angels* to name a few. He was also a regular on the first couple of seasons of Star Trek Deep Space Nine.

Currently Kevin is writer for the fourth “New Warriors“title from Marvel comics. IMDB has also listed Underworld III Rise of the Lycans with a January 2009 opening date.

I figure Kevin is probably not Gay but he is a Actor/Writer and I figure he will just love having a fan base so yeah I am gonna say....he real easy on the eyes. (That is actually how I started noticing him). So show him some love before he becomes to big to receive mail from everybody.

Olympic Watch Tunisia" First gold in 40

Ok I have to admit something; while I am enjoying the Olympics I am not enjoying how NBC and all its affiliates are covering the games. All the commentary is coming off a best a little racist and at worst the epitome of “Ugly American”. I am also a little tired of America’s “Great White Hope” Michael Phelps. Or rather I should say I am tired of the constant coverage, biographies and cut scenes that we got to every time America does not get the gold. I have nothing against Michael himself and wish my new neighbor nothing but the best.

Anyway while I was watching the Olympics today I saw the 1500m freestyle race and was excited and amazed to see “Ous Mellouli” the Tunisian swimmer wins the gold. Well America didn’t place so we didn’t get to see the medal ceremony.

Ous was born in Tunis; Mellouli left Tunisia at the age of 15 to study at the College of Rampart in Marseilles, France. After his graduation, he continued his studies at the University of Southern California and swam for the USC Trojans. He is a scholarship holder with the Olympic Solidarity program

On February 19, 2007 he broke his own African Record in the 200 meter individual medley for the fourth time since 2003 at the USA Swimming Grand Prix meet, held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center at the University of Missouri–Columbia. He also set a new African record in the 400 meter individual medley.

On March 25, 2007, he won the silver in the 400 meter freestyle at the 2007 World Aquatics Championships in Melbourne. On March 28, 2007, he became the first World Champion in the sport of swimming for Tunisia by winning the 800 meter freestyle in African Record time, one of the top 10 fastest times ever. However, he was soon discovered to have tested positive for the banned substance amphetamine, allegedly taken to help concentrate for intensive college study sessions and not for any competitive advantage in swimming. Due to a 18-month retroactive competition ban imposed on him 11 September 2007 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport and retroactive to 30 November 2006 – for doping, all of these 2007 achievements have been voided.

On September 11, 2007, Mellouli lost his case before the Court of Arbitration for sport. He was suspended for 18 months, retroactive to November 30, 2006. As a result of this sanction, all his results from the 2007 World Championships were nullified. However, was eligible to swim again in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, winning a gold medal in the 1500 m freestyle swim, the first gold medal for Tunisia since 1968.

And a little info on the place of his birth!

Tunisia (Arabic: تونسTūnis), officially the Tunisian Republic (الجمهورية التونسية‎), is located in North Africa. It is bordered by Algeria to the west and Libya to the southeast. It is the northernmost African country and the smallest of the nations situated along the Atlas mountain range.

The one thing the Olympics has encouraged me to do is brush up on my world geography as I check out champions from other lands.

I also want to thank the wonderful people at Wikipedia whom have made helped make information gathering that much easier.

Blast from the past!!!!!!!

It was the summer of 1991, Mike Tyson was being arrested for “Rape”, the Chicago Bulls won their first of many NBA Championships, and I was working for my father at the Washington Pine Apartments on Chicago’s west side. It was in those evening hours after work when I would take my walkman to the roof and catch the “Top 5 and 5” on WGCI. Here was the hot song of the summer staying in the top 5 for well over two months.

The "G..ist" show on MTV

So I am completely fascinated with the MTV show G’s to Gent’s. It is funny and hypnotic and makes me feel just a little funny in my pants. For those of you not watching here is the premise. MTV has hand selected a group of 14 street wise “G’s” (gangsta’s) and put them in a house together to learn the ways of being a “Gentleman”. Leading them thru this life changing experience is self appointed gentleman and style guru Fonzworth Bently former right hand body man for Puff Daddy.

The shows named producer is Jamie Foxx.

Every week the G’s are put thru a series of test from the book of style so that in the end one person can gain entrance to the “Gentleman’s Club” and win 100,000 dollars. Your usual elimination reality scenario. But the fun for me comes from watching the potential Gents as they one by one break down and show their “softer” sides. Now I am far from an expert on gangsta behavior but apparently there is a lot of crying, begging, running, and chasing out in the streets these days. Pictured below are a couple of my personal favorite “G’s”.

Creepa with and without his "Hata" blockers on.

Shotta bearing himself for all to see.

E6 uses his eyes to talk you into ...whatevah!!!!!

His spelling not mine..This is Pritti boi Shaun!

T.Jones a native of Detroit...nuff said!!!

Also pictured is the “G” that everyone seems to love to hate ( I think cause he is the most fuckable personally)
