Sherri Shepherd..God looks out for children and fools

It took almost a year but today I finally figured out what role Sherri Shepherd plays on the View. It was so simplistic that I saw it but completely ignored it because it was just that obvious. Sheri is meant to represent the young black right above the ghetto (barley) girl.

The truth is there had been other times when the show presented evidence and I ignored it because I liked those particular guests. I mean I love to watch Clean House and Niecy Nash; she speaks to the little black girl that lives inside me. She came on the show and Sherri announced that they were good good girlfriends. I should have known then but I was busy trying not to paint Niecy with the same brush. I mean I have good good friends that embarrass me in public sometimes so I just don’t take them out. But today I could ignore it no longer.

Jennifer Hudson came on the show today and for once Sherri did not look like she was out of her element. She actually had something to contribute to the conversation, granted it was all sister girl conversation but you know what, good for her. It gets a little painful at times to see Sherri sit there in what looks like a seven year old stuck at the table while the adults are talking and she is the only kid for miles around.

Sherri has not had an easy time of filling the fifth chair at the View table. She has been called out (I don’t know if you can call it called out when you tell your own business) on her limited world view shaped mostly by her religious background and bad decisions made in her twenties.

She is not sure if the world is flat or round, but does promise to look it up when her son Jeffery needs the info, she is a devout believer in creationism so much so that her belief is “Before there was anything there was Jesus” and she is very much looking forward to the upcoming election as it will be the first time she has ever voted because she just never knew the dates or anything. She also once said that the gospel singer Shirley Cesar sound very much like a black Patti LaBelle. Oh Sherri, how you amuse us so……

Addendum…

So I was all set to post this blog I wrote yesterday and then Sherri was Sherri on “The View” today. Bill Maher was a guest on the show pushing his new movie “Religuous” when Sherri, believing there was finally something she was an expert at, decided she was an interviewer. Bill Maher challenged the validity of some of the stories in the bible stating that they completely went against logic. Sherri being born again (whatever that really means) admitted that the stories in the bible defied logic but were leaps of faith. She then asked Bill if he had ever talked to God. Well this is what happened…

Oh and please please pay special attention to Whoopi’s body language during the interview. You have to give it up to the Whoopster; she saves Sherri every time she gets in over her head.

Tuesdays Invitation!

Tina Fey was born and raised in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. She is an actor, comedian, and writer and is best known for eight year stint on Saturday Night Live spending part of the time as the first female head writer.

I have to admit that I have not watched Saturday Night live regularly since Eddie Murphy left the show. I had seen Tina Fey occasionally on those few times I had flashed by SNL on Saturdays bit never stopped to pay attention. Tina didn’t catch my eye until one night strictly by accident and at the suggestion of my I Tunes that I caught my first episode of “30Rock” the show Tina created writes produces and stars in. I mean that shit was put me on my ass funny, partially because I love behind the scene shows, and partly because I am not sure anyone is acting on that show. One of her co stars Tracy Morgan has just never been funny to me, but Tina has found a way to write for him which causes him not to have to try to act, just to be and it is hilarious. Yes Tina is currently making headlines playing Sarah Palin but I thought she was a super funny chick long before then.

So Tina Fey, please accept this invitation to the Dinner party of the year. Your opinion, your funny and your quirkiness are more than welcome! “By the hammer of Thor!”

The movie nobody wants to see.....

Thanks to Mixed Race for bringing this to my attention.

If I put white paint on a black horse does it become a zebra? How soon we forget our own struggle.

According to a September 25th blog entitled “The Nation Will right Itself If It Fixes Sex”, Christian Civil League of Maine Executive Director Michael Heath stated that America’s tolerance of Gays and legal unions was the reason for our current economic crisis.

You know the sad thing about this is as scary as it is coming from those in the white community there are so many in the black community that latch on to this type of wait for it…..hatred and bigotry.

According to the St. Petersburg Times on September 25th “A group of black and Latino pastors pledged to rally support among their congregations for Amendment 2, the measure that would essentially ban gay marriage in Florida.

The pastors had gathered at Beulah Baptist Institutional Church for a meeting with the High Impact Leadership Coalition, a national organization that seeks to organize churches and community leaders around moral issues. Wednesday's meeting was the first of five gatherings in Florida to mobilize minority pastors for Amendment 2.

The coalition also is holding similar forums for pastors in California and Arizona, where marriage amendments will appear on the ballot in November.
"We are not standing here against gays," Bishop Harry R. Jackson Jr. the coalition's leader and pastor of Hope Christian Center in Beltsville, Md., said at a news conference at the Tampa church. "We're standing simply to proclaim that marriage should be preserved."

Now I can’t really get that upset by the likes of Michael Heath, Fred Phelps, Jerry Farwell, or Pat Robertson who preach their hate...oh I’m sorry their opinion thru bigotry. Who turn tragedy into fodder for their own agendas! I mean after all these are all white men who have never been the subject of hate crimes simply because you are different, but come on we are just two generations away (if that) from black men and women being hosed down in the streets, having police dogs sicced upon them, and Jim Crow bathrooms. Where do we get off trying to deny another group of people anything? Should we not all ban together for the struggle?

I did a little research, because I understand Marriage is a sacred institution, and it is to be taken seriously. It is time for that man and the woman to stand in front of God and their community and pledge their unyielding love and commitment for each other. Here are some people that loved the sanctity of marriage so much they kept doing it.
Zsa Zsa Gabor-9
Liz Taylor, Mickey Rooney, Lana Turner-8
Larry King, Martha Raye, -7
Jerry Lee Lewis, Tony Curtis-6
Louis Armstrong, Ernest Borgnine, James Cameron, Joan Collins, Michal Chrinton, Henry Fonda, Judy Garland, Dennis Hopper, Bridgette Nielson, Billy Bob Thorton-5
And my favorite, A minister named Glynn Wolfe who passed in 1997 holding the record for the most marriages. 29

Hmmmm I can see where we are saving the sanctity of marriage in this country, that last Glynn Wolfe marriage was a publicity stunt that lasted 19 days.

On the eve of one of the greatest most important elections in American history, the one that is literally changing everything, I close with two quotes, one from one of my favorite Star Trek Captains, Jean Luc Picard, the other from one of my favorite people Whoopi Goldberg.

"You know, there are some words I've known since I was a schoolboy: ' With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.'

“If you are against gay marriage, then don’t marry a gay!”

In watching this clip of the hilarious and multi talented Tina Fey one thing comes to mind. even in her portrayal of Sarah Palin she can't seem to get that same sense of blank nonsensical illusion of I know of which I speak. But boy does she try.......

McCain tries to back out of upcoming scheduled debate….Take 2

His numbers down, his message failing, John McCain decides he does not want to debate, so he cancels his scheduled debate with Governor George W. Bush. Oh did you think I was talking about the upcoming debate with Obama?? According to this Article from the San Francisco Chronicle dated Monday Feb. 28, 2000

“With new polls showing his campaign dead in the water among California Republicans, Arizona Sen. John McCain has pulled out of a long-scheduled debate with Texas Gov. George Bush, set for Thursday in Los Angeles.
McCain campaign officials tried desperately yesterday to put the best face on their withdrawal, even as a new Field Poll showed Bush far ahead among likely Republican voters in the winner-take-all race for the state's 162 GOP delegates.
Top campaign officials attributed McCain's decision to Bush's earlier reluctance to appear at the debate.
``We had agreed to do this debate a long time ago, and Gov. Bush said he wasn't going to do it,'' McCain spokesman Howard Opinsky said yesterday. ``We aren't going to hold our schedule together forever.''
But Opinsky said McCain will debate Bush on NBC's ``Meet the Press'' Sunday, a national TV show that will reach millions of Americans.
Still, just last week, the McCain campaign was openly derisive of Bush's reluctance to commit to a California debate -- and promised its own candidate would be there. “
8 years ago when John “The Maverick” McCain was running against then Governor George Herbert Walker Bush for the republican nomination, he cut and ran. Here we are again, McCain is down in the polls, losing the precious numbers he gained at the convention, and trying to backpedal from last weeks assurance that are economy is strong, Senator McCain has decided to lead by calling a time out.

I am not sure that his big gesture is sending the message of leadership and bipartisanship that he intended to send. It seems more like an old man that can only deal with one crisis at a time and with all the troubles are country seems to be going thru at this time we need a leader who can multi-task.

As someone who has built his campaign base on being the all American hero, The P.O.W. that would not say die, the changer and reformer, this story begins to paint a very different picture. Check any history book in the last 8 years and you will see that this particular tactic didn’t work 8 years ago and if everyone is paying attention it will not work today. While it is documented that he is less than proficient with “The Google” it seems that he is very familiar with the “Pause” button.

I participated in my first ever LiveBlog Journal tonight. Along with chatting with some really great people during the debate I got some great artwork.

Crisis Redux

It is becoming more and more clear to me that the party formerly known as The Republicans, now going by GOP, is playing from the same playbook that has only five plays in it. First Maverick McCain attempts to cancel a debate for the second time in his history. Now "W" is giving a speech that he gave 5 years ago. I wonder if he got any white out on his hands when he reread this speech?

Pushing the wrong buttons!

We have all done it. Sometimes in a haste to send out a email we hit send just a little too quick and before we realize it we have sent more info than we meant to.

The McCain camp did just that today.

American Prayer (The Barack Obama Video)

This is moving...just take 5 minutes and listen.

Pause!!!!!

Presidential hopeful John McCain wants to postpone the Friday debate so as to focus on the financial crisis. He has also stated that he will stop campaigning after Thursday so that he can head back to Washington to focus on the emergency.

According to MSNBC

Republican John McCain says he's directing his staff to work with Barack Obama's campaign and the debate commission to delay Friday's debate because of the economic crisis.

In a statement, McCain says he will stop campaigning after addressing former President Bill Clinton's Global Initiative session on Thursday and return to Washington to focus on the nation's financial problems.

Temporary Powers

I have not said much about this crisis on Wall Street (mostly out of fear). But as more and more information comes out about what President Bush and United States Treasurer Secretary Hank Paulson want to do to fix the situation just sends shivers down my spine. Literally they want us (The people of the United States) to write a check for at least 700 billion dollars and we can’t even ask what is going to be done with the money. They want us to hand over temporary powers with the promise that they will take care of us.

I remember seeing a movie a few years back when a political leader asked to have temporary powers to deal with one very specific situation. That situation wound up lasting over twenty years. What movie was that???? Oh Yeah!!!!!

Sarah Palin hates the American government???!!!

I am completely biased and just a little afraid....

Tuesdays Invitation!

Joy Behar was born and raised in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in New York. She is an actor, comedian, and writer. But is best known for 11 year stint on the view, she and Barbara being the only 2 left of the original host.

I have to admit until Whoopi joined the cast of “The View” last year I never really paid much attention to this show or the host, however as the most important election in American history looms closer and all talk turns to candidates the old adage has never been truer, Politics makes strange bedfellows. Joy has continued to demonstrate a mindset that comes close to my own, she has managed to fight my battles and make my points during the hot topics and rare is the white woman I find that can speak for me.

So Joy Behar, please accept this invitation to the Dinner party of the year. Your opinion, your veracity, and your big mouth are more than welcome!

No more Mondays!

So I have made a editorial decision to discontinue “Tha Man Monday”. Now not to worry I am replacing it with something even better.

Welcome to “You are cordially invited…”

Every Tuesday I will answer that age old question asked at games and parties. “If you were having a dinner party who would you invite, living or dead?” I hope you enjoy.

For McCain 13 is an average number

Today I present further proof that when it comes down between the Obama’s and the McCain’s, Barack and company really are the elitist that everyone says they are.

Newsweek check the vehicle registrations for the two families running to be the first family. What they reported was very telling.

The McCain’s have a choice when heading out to their local Bashas’ grocery store they can take

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or

Or
(No this is not a mistake they own three of these, maybe like the houses he forgot he had one and bought two more)

Now those uppity elitist Obama’s figure they should not be like the rest of us. When they head to the Hyde Park Co Op for their caviar and fancy cheeses they roll in their

Well it is clear to me that Barack and company clearly can’t relate to the average American when it comes to buying gas or road trips or going to the grocery store. Cindy and John have 13 cars and 13 is clearly our lucky number!

So scary cause you could see it happening

As SNL continues to poke fun (and there actually funny) at the 2008 Presidential election I laugh with a mixture of humor and dread. I could easily see these ads for real....

Paula Dean! First Chef!!

Well I was forced to sit thru Maury Povich and his Connie Chung for the first fifteen minutes of the show, boy those two are annoying. Then came the Dean boys, since this is a somewhat political post I will postpone my Dean Boys post show roundup. I set my timer today to see Paula Dean and Michelle Obama.

Paula set out on the road to catch up with Michelle on the very busy campaign trail. From introduction to end it was less like a cooking show and more like an easy interview. Clearly this was put together to further show what kind of wife and mother Michelle is. It was a joy to watch these two women in the kitchen just chatting away being nice and getting to know each other.

As they were preparing the double breaded shrimp they spoke of the children’s likes and dislikes food wise and how Michelle splits her time up between helping Barack run for the highest office in the world and giving the girls a normal scheduled life. I was particularly moved by Paula asking about Michelle’s mother and having someone there who would give their life for your children.

During the second half of the segment the two women made Cajun fries and spoke candidly about how Michelle and Barack met, their first date, and the one dish that Michelle made the first time for Barack and never made again. “I made the gumbo that one time, it had everything in it, lobster, crab, shrimp, I don’t know where that came from, I was really in love.”

During the whole interview...I mean segment Paula never once got political but in the end she made Michelle promise that if the Obamas make it to the White House in January that she be allowed to come cook all their favorites for them. Now maybe it was me, but I think that was Paula’s little thumbs up to Michelle. Now perhaps in a few weeks Cindy McCain will show up on Paula’s party. Of course we all know Cindy is a huge Food Network fan, she has stolen some of her best recipes from them…

Two great taste that taste great together….

In less than an hour two of my favorite women will take the small screen together. The lady Paula Dean, cooking guru and butter pusher extraordinaire.

On her show Paula’s party she will be joined by soon to be (cross your fingers) Michelle Obama. Never before has the thought of cooking and women turned me on more. Stay tuned for a post cooking analysis.

Tina/Sarah Fey/Palin

I love Tina Fey, I think 30 Rock is one of the funniest shows on TV. Last night Tina returned to her Alma Mater with a boom!

The Audacity of my hope

I like to blog.....hence I like to read blogs. It seems that even the sexy naked blogs I read have something to say about the most important election in American history. If your not supporting the McCain/Palin ticket the news can be a little daunting at times. But good news is I am not alone. I found this blog that renews me, that gives me a sense that there are others that feel like I do...and maybe they can help you too.

Living the Lifestyle (A rewind thru time)

Occasionally I will come across an old post from my 360 days and repost it because " Hey why not it was good the first time. This is one such post...

Lifestyle

Merriam Webster defines “Lifestyle” as the typical way of life of an individual, group, or culture.

I guess my problem with that definition is the word “typical”. I have more than a few friends who have struggled with coming to grips with their sexuality because of what they see as the “gay” lifestyle. I in fact remember my year of coming out when I went all queen. There were these two guys I met thru a friend and they were “typical”. They shopped for hours on end, they took two hours getting ready to go out, the spent a hour of that time whooping out make up kits in order to achieve that perfect look (most of these people were actors so they had stage make up), and they had to arrive at the club at exactly 12:48 am because that was the optimal time to arrive and be seen by everyone.

I just remember thinking to myself every weekend “What the hell have I gotten myself into?” For those who have never met me in person let me tell you a little bit about DJ. I sleep late, I fart often, I eat shit that is bad for me (well not so much anymore since I got a little older), I stand by the dryer so that when it is done everything can immediately go on a hanger so I don’t have to iron, I have bumps on my face at times (in high school my nose was one huge acne crop field), I love a good funny t-shirt, I love some worn torn (thru wear) jeans and when it’s cols a sweatshirt! I am not now nor will I ever be a fashionista.

If you ask my sister she will tell you I am not gay, I just like sleeping with men. I know a lot of people that have issues with their sexuality because they think they are going to have to act like the guys on Queer as Folk or Noah’s Arc. While those might be the loudest examples of “The Lifestyle” they are far from the only, sometimes it just requires opening your eyes. Not only have I been that couple but I have sat in restaurants and watched those couples. They almost look like two buddies out together for dinner before they hit the streets. But if you know how and where to look you see a couple that is out for dinner. They are both probably blue collar guys that live in the neighborhood and have dinner after getting off work before they head home to do laundry, pay bills, and if there really lucky make with the “dance of the wild monkeys” before bed. They might even go to the parade and maybe an occasional house party. Now how is their lifestyle any more or less real?

The “lifestyle” conversation is equivalent to saying that you are only a real black man if you were baggy pants and have done some time. While it is true that I have some friends that will dress a little hood, I have left all my hard time people as those first hook ups of 15 years ago, when I first came out into the “Lifestyle!”

McCain's hands are filthy

Will John McCain ever be able to get his hands clean from all the mud slinging and lying he has done? I am not John McCain and i approve this ad!

Tha Man Monday (Is a Woman)

Gloria Marie Steinem (born March 25, 1934) is an American feminist icon, journalist and women's rights advocate. She is the founder and original publisher of Ms. magazine, and was an influential co-convener of the National Women's Political Caucus.

Sarah Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Hillary Clinton. She
is Phyllis Schlafly, only younger.

By Gloria Steinem
September 4, 2008

Here's the good news: Women have become so politically powerful that
even the anti-feminist right wing -- the folks with a headlock on the
Republican Party -- are trying to appease the gender gap with a first-
ever female vice president. We owe this to women -- and to many men
too -- who have picketed, gone on hunger strikes or confronted
violence at the polls so women can vote. We owe it to Shirley
Chisholm, who first took the "white-male- only" sign off the White
House, and to Hillary Rodham Clinton, who hung in there through
ridicule and misogyny to win 18 million votes.

But here is even better news: It won't work. This isn't the first
time a boss has picked an unqualified woman just because she agrees
with him and opposes everything most other women want and need.
Feminism has never been about getting a job for one woman. It's about
making life more fair for women everywhere. It's not about a piece of
the existing pie; there are too many of us for that. It's about
baking a new pie.

Selecting Sarah Palin, who was touted all summer by Rush Limbaugh, is
no way to attract most women, including die-hard Clinton supporters.
Palin shares nothing but a chromosome with Clinton. Her down-home,
divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican
convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female,
a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing
and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton's
candidacy stood for -- and that Barack Obama's still does. To vote in
protest for McCain/Palin would be like saying, "Somebody stole my
shoes, so I'll amputate my legs."

This is not to beat up on Palin. I defend her right to be wrong, even
on issues that matter most to me. I regret that people say she can't
do the job because she has children in need of care, especially if
they wouldn't say the same about a father. I get no pleasure from
imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues
about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to
compete with Sen. Joe Biden's 37 years' experience.

Palin has been honest about what she doesn't know. When asked last
month about the vice presidency, she said, "I still can't answer that
question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP
does every day?" When asked about Iraq, she said, "I haven't really
focused much on the war in Iraq."

She was elected governor largely because the incumbent was unpopular,
and she's won over Alaskans mostly by using unprecedented oil wealth
to give a $1,200 rebate to every resident. Now she is being praised
by McCain's campaign as a tax cutter, despite the fact that Alaska
has no state income or sales tax. Perhaps McCain has opposed
affirmative action for so long that he doesn't know it's about
inviting more people to meet standards, not lowering them. Or perhaps
McCain is following the Bush administration habit, as in the Justice
Department, of putting a job candidate's views on "God, guns and
gays" ahead of competence. The difference is that McCain is filling a
job one 72-year-old heartbeat away from the presidency.

So let's be clear: The culprit is John McCain. He may have chosen
Palin out of change-envy, or a belief that women can't tell the
difference between form and content, but the main motive was to
please right-wing ideologues; the same ones who nixed anyone who is
now or ever has been a supporter of reproductive freedom. If that
were not the case, McCain could have chosen a woman who knows what a
vice president does and who has thought about Iraq; someone like
Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison or Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
McCain could have taken a baby step away from right-wing patriarchs
who determine his actions, right down to opposing the Violence
Against Women Act.

Palin's value to those patriarchs is clear: She opposes just about
every issue that women support by a majority or plurality. She
believes that creationism should be taught in public schools but
disbelieves global warming; she opposes gun control but supports
government control of women's wombs; she opposes stem cell research
but approves "abstinence- only" programs, which increase unwanted
births, sexually transmitted diseases and abortions; she tried to use
taxpayers' millions for a state program to shoot wolves from the air
but didn't spend enough money to fix a state school system with the
lowest high-school graduation rate in the nation; she runs with a
candidate who opposes the Fair Pay Act but supports $500 million in
subsidies for a natural gas pipeline across Alaska; she supports
drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve, though even McCain
has opted for the lesser evil of offshore drilling. She is Phyllis
Schlafly, only younger.

I don't doubt her sincerity. As a lifetime member of the National
Rifle Assn., she doesn't just support killing animals from
helicopters, she does it herself. She doesn't just talk about
increasing the use of fossil fuels but puts a coal-burning power
plant in her own small town. She doesn't just echo McCain's pledge to
criminalize abortion by overturning Roe vs. Wade, she says that if
one of her daughters were impregnated by rape or incest, she should
bear the child. She not only opposes reproductive freedom as a human
right but implies that it dictates abortion, without saying that it
also protects the right to have a child.

So far, the major new McCain supporter that Palin has attracted is
James Dobson of Focus on the Family. Of course, for Dobson, "women
are merely waiting for their husbands to assume leadership," so he
may be voting for Palin's husband.

Being a hope-a-holic, however, I can see two long-term bipartisan
gains from this contest.

Republicans may learn they can't appeal to right-wing patriarchs and
most women at the same time. A loss in November could cause the
centrist majority of Republicans to take back their party, which was
the first to support the Equal Rights Amendment and should be the
last to want to invite government into the wombs of women.

And American women, who suffer more because of having two full-time
jobs than from any other single injustice, finally have support on a
national stage from male leaders who know that women can't be equal
outside the home until men are equal in it. Barack Obama and Joe
Biden are campaigning on their belief that men should be, can be and
want to be at home for their children.

This could be huge.

Gloria Steinem is an author, feminist organizer and co-founder
of the Women's Media Center. She supported Hillary Clinton and is now
supporting Barack Obama.
